Apparently not satisfied with his career-long support of high taxes, Udall is boosting his liberal credentials with opposition to energy independence and support for higher gas prices. Udall, who has already opposed drilling in ANWR and supported raising taxes oil production, is now attempting to delay drilling in his home state. Udall wants to give archaeologists more […]

In her first debate with Rep. Steve Pearce earlier this week, Rep. Heather Wilson took the opportunity to lie to Republican voters about her record. “I am pro-life and pro-marriage…” said Wilson, apparently unaware that her record could be tracked. Most recently, Wilson voted against an amendment offered by Rep. Mike Pence that would have […]
Just last month, Rep. Tom Udall said that he would not be a candidate for Senate. Now he’s saying he will. It appears that Mr. Udall has a John Kerry problem.
Even so, the effort to draft him was impressive, though I have to wonder whether it was staged. Udall led handily in polls when Sen. […]
Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez, the ledaing Democrat candidate to replace retiring Senator Pete Domenici, spoke out about Rep. Tom Udall, whom some Democrats are still trying to convince to enter the Senate race even after he said that he would not. “Philosophically, he’s so far to the left,” Chavez said, talking about why his candidacy […]
In the most welcome news yet this cycle, Rep. Steve Pearce is planning to run for the seat being vacated by Sen. Pete Domenici. Pearce, a conservative, will face off against the less reliable Rep. Heather Wilson in a primary. Though the national Party wanted the squishy Wilson, Pearce will now carry the flag for the […]
With Udall and Richardson now out of the picture in the open seat race in New Mexico, conservative Rep. Steve Pearce now polls better than Rep. Heather Wilson against the potential Democrat nominees. Especially interesting are his numbers against announced candidate Albuquerque Mayor Marty Chavez. Pearce beats Chavez 56-35 while Madrid has a statistically insignificant […]
Adam C has a great wrap up on the New Mexico Senate race over at RedState. He did a great job, so I will only add my $.02 that I have some concerns about Wilson’s ability to rally the base, especially if Giuliani is at the top of the ticket.
On the same day that Sen. Pete Domenici announced his retirement and Rep. Heather Wilson declared her candidacy for his seat, Gov. Bill Richardson squashed rumors that he would enter the Senate race and Rep. Tom Udall opted out as well. This is rare unmitigated good news in what has been a recent wave of […]
Rep. Heather Wilson, a protege of Sen. Pete Domenici, will seek his Senate seat. The decision is only surprising insofar as Wilson has been inplicated in the pseudo-scandal that many think contributed to Domenici’s decision to retire, i.e. Iglesias issue. News of the decision comes just hours after Domenici announced his retirement.
Wilson is no conservative. […]
Sen. Pete Domenici will announce his retirement tomorrow. Domenici established a reliably but not overwhelmingly conservative voting record. When he disagreed with the Party faithful, he always did so quietly and respectfully. He will be sorely missed.
His decision puts what had been a safe seat near the top of the list of competitive seats. New […]
