Less than a day after the New York Times claimed that the national Party was abandoning Sen. Mike DeWine, RNC Chair Ken Mehlman said that the RNC will be investing millions in the state during the final three weeks. Not surprisingly, NRSC spokesman Brian Nick was yet again unhelpful in his statement to the Times, which was, “The committee doesn’t discuss internal strategy in terms of where financial resources are allocated.” Thanks, Brian. Perhaps you could´ve said that you´re actually moving to Ohio to vote for Sherrod Brown. Thankfully, the RNC, while making mistakes like working to turnout Democrats and unaffiliated voters in the Rhode Island Primary, is not quite as inept as the NRSC, and Ken Mehlman made clear that DeWine´s reelection remains a top priority.
While I have no love for Sen. DeWine, he is not quite Lincoln Chafee and could at least be counted on to support a Republican for Majority Leader. Keeping him in office, nauseating as it may be, is critical to maintaining a Senate Majority and at the same time keeping that “Goddamn hippie sonuvabitch” out of office. The NRSC has already cost Republicans seats in Florida, North Dakota, Rhode Island, and, possibly Minnesota and/or Montana through utter ineptitude, so it should come as no surprise that they would try to go for a clean sweep. Hopefully someone will stick a muzzle on Brian Nick and hide Elizabeth Dole in a closet somewhere until after the election. Then maybe we can focus on fighting the Democrats instead of having
the French army the NRSC behind us.
