Sen. Tim Johnson made his first public appearance since his brain hemorage last December on Monday. He also spoke with CNN’s Bob Woodruff and, according to USA Today, said he’s running for reelection. While I’m glad that the Senator is back on his feet, this decision will make it extremely difficult for us to win the seat next year. Johnson will have to show that he is up to the job, but if he manages that, likely with an electorate willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, the seat is his to lose. It will be interesting to see whether Johnson’s condition - he spoke slowly and was slurring his words - improves over the next few months. If not, even State Rep. Joel Dykstra will have a chance. If he does clear a very low bar, he’ll stay put.
