Gilmore Planning Senate Bid?

That’s the speculation by Cicero over at PoliticalInsider.com.  According to that theory, Gilmore is raising money not for his Presidential bid, but for a shot at the Senate seat likely to be vacated by Sen. John Warner.  If so, Gilmore is a far worse politician than he gets credit for.  He is not campaigning.  He is failing miserably at fundraising.  He has proven himself a lazy candidate.

Rep. Tom Davis has his eyes on the seat and is Warner’s favorite to replace him.  Fortunately, a couple of other Congressmen, including Rep. Robert Goodlatte, who has more money in the bank than Davis, are looking at bids.  Gilmore will likely come out of the Presidential campaign weakened beyond the point of repair, and any of the other possible candidates would enter stronger than he is.  If he really wants to do what’s best for conservatives, Gilmore needs to call it quits on his political career to clear the path for people who are serious about getting elected.
