President Bush’s approval numbers make him poisonous for stump speeches, but he can still rake in the dollars. Last week, President Bush hosted a fundraiser for Sen. Jeff Sessoins, raking in over $800,000. Lest his $2+ million advantage wasn’t enough to deter challengers, that is now over $3 million, in a deep red state. It’s little wonder that Ron Sparks decided against the challenge. To be sure, this seat was not on any real prognosticator’s watch list, but the Democrats managed to win last time by putting seats that should never have been competitive into play, such as Montana and Virginia. As such, it’s always nice to see one put even further out of their reach.
