Franken a Laughing Matter

Democrats consider Sen. Norm Coleman one of the most vulnerable Republicans in the country, but you’d never know it by the poll numbers.  Coleman is drubbing the Democrat frontrunner 54-32.  While normally an incumbent with that kind of a lead would not look completely safe, Franken’s name recognition is over 80%, and his negatives are already higher than Coleman’s.  No wonder the DSCC is desperately trying to get a better candidate.  Unfortunately for them, their top recruiting target just endorsed Franken’s relatively unknown and underfunded primary opponent.

With the DSCC’s success in the last cycle, it is a wonder that they failed to evade this major threat to drive the DFL into the ground.  The voters of Minnesota clearly cannot take the failed comedian seriously, and his Senate bid appears headed for about as much success as his radio station.  One could say that Franken has surrounded himself by people to far left for Minnesota, but there is no need.  Franken himself has made statements so far out of the mainstream that only the most liberal Democrats, i.e. primary voters, are supporting his candidacy.  His recent claim to fame is that he was the voice of a radio station that went under faster than the Titanic.  All the money in the world could not get the voters of Minnesota to take him seriously.   The joke’s on him.
