Owens, er, Drops Out?
Colorado Gov. Bill Owens said Monday that he is not looking at a possible Senate bid should Sen. Wayne Allard decide to retire. The statement was somewhat odd insofar as those supporting candidates for reelection, as Owens is supporting Allard, generally don`t make hypothetical comments about a possible retirement. Owens` verbiage did leave the door ajar, though, as he did not say that he would not look at it if the situation of a retirement arose. Owens would likely be the strongest candidate should Allard retire, but Allard running for reelection, albeit a tough one, would serve the Party best. Even if he opts out, though, the GOP bench in Colorado is deep enough to enssure that we have a strong candidate.
