Democrat Takeover? Not Going to Happen

Friday, February 10th, 2006

In the past few days, a number of articles have been written about the possibility of Democrats taking back Congress.  These hypotheses are not unlike the Domesday hypotheses of early 2004 that had John Kerry easily taking the White House and leading the Democrats to majorities in both houses of Congress.  What ended up happening […]

Ciresi to National Democrats: We Lose

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Via Kennedy v. The Machine, attorney Mike Ciresi has decided against a run for Senate this year, saying that he doesn’t want to go to Washington just to be a voice of dissent.  As Democrats try to convince people, most of all themselves, that they have a real chance to retake the Senate this year, […]

Allen Draws Challenger

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Contrary to earlier reports, James Webb, Secretary of the Navy under President Reagan, announced earlier this week that he will challenge Sen. George Allen this year.  The challenge will be successful only insofar as it will force Allen to spend more time campaigning for Senate and less time campaigning for President, something that will surely […]

Dole Doesn’t Get It, Part 839575

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006

Senator Elizabeth Dole, the inept head of the NRSC, is asking Republican Senators to pony up and raise money for the organization that is supposedly in existence to recruit and support Republican Senate candidates.  For the record, Elizabeth Dole has successfully played a role in recruiting exactly one top-tier Republican Senate Candidate, Maryland Lt. Gov. […]

NV Dems in Limbo

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

Is a bird in the hand worth two in the bush?  Nevada Democrats aren’t so sure.
Today, Jack Carter filed for his longshot candidacy against Sen. John Ensign.  Carter has no political experience and little support outside of his father, whose political clout evaporated with his 1980 loss.  As such, his support means almost nothing.
The embarassing […]

Ricketts Files, Focuses on Pork

Monday, February 6th, 2006

Republican frontrunner Pete Ricketts filed the requisite papers for his Senate race today, focusing on the need to cut pork from the budget.  His comments closely mirror those of his nearest rival, former GOP State Party Chair David Kramer.  Ricketts leads the three Republican candidates in fundraising and has most of the DC establishment behind […]

NRO En Banc Opinion: Dump Chafee

Monday, February 6th, 2006

One wonders: Why is Chafee a Republican at all? The senator appears none too sure himself. In 2004, when USA Today asked whether he’d consider switching parties, Chafee replied, “I’m not ruling it out.”

Congratulations, Pittsburgh

Monday, February 6th, 2006

Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers on an improbable run to the Super Bowl and a well deserved win over the Seahawks.

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

My team’s been out of contention since September, but since the AFC team doesn’t come out of the East, I have to root for them.  (They didn’t beat us last year.  Doug Brien/Herm Edwards who took care of that.).  Fortunately, the Steelers are going to win, 24-16.  The game won’t be as close as the score.

This is Encouraging

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

It’s a partisan poll, though, so adjust accordingly.  Strategic Vision also showed the 2004 Washington Senate race very competitive before Patty Murray won comfortably.  Even so, this is the best any Republican has done in any poll.
